I Refuse to Trade Authenticity for Approval

IMG_3569She threw away all of her masks & put on her soul
🧘🏽‍♀️
I had been considering letting my locks grow out. . . and for many different reasons
🌈
Although I couldn’t shake the aching I had to keep them —> to be true to me & continue to enjoy my dread journey
👍🏽
The timing wasn’t right to let them go
❣️
Once I decided to get them maintained {many thanks to @hawaii_locs_and_dreadswho worked wonders!!} I felt alive again
🧜🏽‍♀️
Looking back ~ a lot of my considerations for letting my locks go, resulted from the pressure of outside influences surrounding: appropriateness for my age, appropriateness for my job and ultimately fitting inside society’s tight confinement of what is acceptable and beautiful
🤮
I love my real, raw, earthy & untamed mane

🦁
My locks are a constant reminder to not trade my authenticity for approval ~ instead, be a reflection of my true self
👊🏽
